These products go into a standard holding tank (as required by ALL building departments). If already installed, you can use your existing tank. Alternatively we can supply one. Bacteria in the holding tank consume 90% of the solids and the rest is pumped out every 5-10 years depending on what you are flushing.
Although theoretically possible, most building codes would prohibit this. In areas where it is permitted, an ultra violet sanitizing cycle would be needed together with a reverse osmosis system for added safety.
Depending on your location, water can be gravity fed or pumped in with a standard waste water pump, provided the WaterPlantir is above the level of your holding tank. These pumps cost in the region of $150-$400.
No, the system is aerobic and does not produce sulfur dioxide like traditional septic
They do a little, but mostly they hide what is going on inside. In warmer climates the plants can consume a large part of your excess water. In a desert climate they may consume all your waste water so there is no discharge at all.
It depends on the plants, and your climate. The design DOES allow some rain water to soak the plants but you may need to flush an enzyme pack into the system when you return home to feed the proteins that clarify your water. They will require a few days to repopulate.
There is no need to make adjustments for visitors who are with you for a few days or a couple of weeks. Firstly, this will depend on additional usage as much as additional people. One person taking a 30 minute shower is equivalent to 2 people taking 15 minute showers. If your guests use a lot of water and are staying for more than 30 days, we recommend that you consider installing an extra unit or that you buy and install the UV sanitizer, which will give you the confidence of knowing that any bad bacteria is not present, however much water goes through the system.
The system is constantly monitored via the cloud and alerts you when it needs maintenance. We designed it for a 3 year maintenance cycle
No, it is not a filter. Filters clog, they don’t work, this is more like a greenhouse and the food is your poop.
Yes, provided that the water does not go over the top of the system, it will still function in approximately 3 feet of water. The WaterPlantir fares better in such conditions than a municipal septic or any standard septic system.
Yes, the system is too heavy to blow away, with the sides designed to withstand very high winds.
